About
London Nigerian RFC was formed in 1991 by a group of Nigerian friends who had learned their rugby mainly in English public schools. The club started competing in league rugby in 1992 and has been promoted every season except 1995/6.
Chris Oti, the first black player to represent England, was club coach. He was succeeded in the 96/7 season by Francis Emeruwa, the ex-Wasps and England A flanker, our current coach.
Other players to have won representative honours include David Essien, who played for England Under 21 and Bristol, Jemi Akin-Olugbade, a member of the England Schools squad, and JJ Amaworo-Wilson, who played for England Schools and Scottish Universities.
